Short bio
Roberto Marani (born March 27, 1985, B.E. 2006, M.S. 2008, Ph.D. 2012) is an Electronic Engineer at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR).
From January 2009 to December 2011, he attended the Ph.D. course in Information Engineering at the Electrical and Information Engineering Department (Dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica e dell'Informazione, DEI) of the Polytechnic University of Bari.
From January 2009 to February 2010, he carried out his research activity at the Optoelectronics Laboratory (Bari); from March 2010 to March 2012, he cooperated with the nanoPhotonics and Electromagnetics Group (nPEG) of the Polytechnic University of Bari.
From February 2011 to October 2011, he went to Madrid, Spain, joining the Nanophotonics Group of the Department of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics (Departamento di Física Teórica de la Materia Condensada) at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.
From May 2012 to April 2014, he was a research fellow at the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation (Istituto di Studi sui Sistemi Intelligenti per l’Automazione - ISSIA) of the National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - CNR) in Bari, where he worked on the three-dimensional object reconstruction via laser scanning and range image processing for machine vision.
From May 2014 to June 2018, he served as a staff Researcher at the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation (Istituto di Studi sui Sistemi Intelligenti per l’Automazione - ISSIA) at the National Research Council, and he was involved in the design of hardware and software prototypes for autonomous systems.
From July 2018 to December 2022, he was a permanent staff Researcher at the Institute of Intelligent Industrial Technologies and Systems for Advanced Manufacturing (Istituto di Sistemi e Tecnologie Industriali Intelligenti per il Manifatturiero Avanzato - STIIMA) of the National Research Council.
From January 2023 to February 2024, he was Senior Researcher at CNR-STIIMA, where he cooperated with the Intelligent Sensing and Perception Group for computer vision, machine and deep learning applications dedicated to industrial applications, precision agriculture, robotics, geology, archaeology, reverse engineering, and human monitoring.
Since February 2024, Dr. Marani has been the Scientific Attaché at the Embassy of Italy in Mexico City, where he has been facilitating and strengthening scientific collaborations between Italy and Mexico, fostering the mutual exchange of knowledge and advancements in various scientific and technological fields.
He is the author of many scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals and proceedings at international conferences.
